Urgency of the research. The idea of spirituality has always occupied an important place in traditional education. Orthodoxy was originally considered to be the source of spiritual thought, but after the change in the vector of spirituality, communist ideology became the source. The moral model of the society of the time was to create not only the ideal of man, but also the construction of an ideal world for existence. The idea of spirituality, which was too distorted by the Soviet regime, underwent such a significant change that it became barely recognizable. At the same time, interest in various kinds of teachings and non-traditional religions led the society to complete spiritual disorientation, in which new, unknown ideals and values began to emerge. In this regard, in the 90s of the XX century aspects of the phenomenon of spirituality were actively researched and viewed from different perspectives. Particular attention was paid to the study of the essence of the phenomenon of spirituality and various aspects of its manifestations and functioning in the pedagogical environment. This scientific novelty of the period became a solid platform for building certain aspects of pedagogical thought.

The statement of basic material. The article deals with the peculiarities of new dimensions of spirituality in the post-Soviet educational space. Conclusions. Therefore, it is necessary to highlight the main differences in the educational positions of secular and Orthodox pedagogy. Secular pedagogy understands human life as a time period, limited by the limits of earthly existence, complete and valuable. Secular education boils down to the formation of a “harmoniously developed personality”, that is, to the development of the power of the soul - mind, will, feelings, and the ideal for it is the image of a person with brilliant erudition, strong passions and will. Orthodox pedagogy examines human existence in the categories of “eternity” and “immortality” and directs upbringing to a specific person, bound by responsibility to God not only for his life, but also for the preservation and development of the historical and cultural traditions of the people. It recognizes the reality of the spiritual world and the spiritual basis of man, and the concepts of good and evil are absolute in it. Such an educational system contributes to the complete restoration of binary thinking, which is a guarantee of vitality and spiritual health. It affirms the notion of holiness, goodness, justice, not by way of external prohibitions, but by the development of intrinsic motivation and the need for profound changes in one’s worldview and way of life.
