Urgency of the research. Connected to high education reform aimed at quality, generalizing achievements and identifying gaps in pharmaceutical education are relevant. It allows to identify the main perspectives of pharmaceutical education development.

Target setting. Based on archival documents the authors offer their vision of pharmaceutical education formation in Kharkiv and its importance in the period of the first half of the XXth century.

Actual scientific researches and issues analysis. The problem of the formation of pharmaceutical education in Ukraine and Kharkiv was analyzed by: V. Belikov, Yu. Borysyuk, V. Semynko, L. Kazarnovsky, V. Chernykh and others. Archival materials were also used.

The research objective. The aim is to analyze the process of formation and development of pharmaceutical education in Kharkiv on the basis of formation and development of Kharkiv Pharmaceutical Institute since the 1920-ies until now.

The statement of basic material. The paper analyzes the documents of the formative education meetings, the resolutions of the People’s Commissariat of Health Care in Ukraine, resulted the creation of plans for preparation of pharmacists and opening of the first pharmaceutical institute in Ukraine. The basic stages of development of pharmaceutical institute and changes in the program of training of specialists are considered. Changes in the forms of organization of the educational process have been observed.

Conclusions. The result is a whole picture of the formation of pharmaceutical education in Ukraine, its achievements and outlined problems of development.
