Urgency of the research. The urgency of the work is due to the need to modernize education, bringing it into line with modern achievements of scientific and technological progress which is the key to the training of highly qualified, ICT-competent professionals. The project announced by the authors is aimed at developing cloud-based systems of open education, methodological, scientific and methodological, organizational support for the use of modern ICT in teaching and research, increasing the level of ICT competence of specialists, including teachers.

Target setting. Given the significant pedagogical potential and novelty of existing approaches to using cloud-based open science systems, their projecting and providing in educational institutions, these issues still need theoretical and experimental research, refinement of approaches, models, methods and techniques, possible ways of implementation.

Actual scientific researches and issues analysis. The introduction of cloud technologies in the organization of educational and scientific systems has been considered by scientists, among whom V. Bykov, O. Glazunova, M. Zhaldak, O. Kuzminskaya, S. Lytvynova, A. Manako, L. Panchenko, S. Semerikov, O. Spivakovsky, O. Spirin, A. Stryuk, M. Shishkina, etc.

The research objective. To determine the state of development of the problem of using the cloud-oriented systems of open science in the Ukrainian educational space.

The statement of basic materials. The article presents the Ukrainian experience in developing the issue of using cloud-oriented systems of open science. In particular, the concept of “digital transformation” and the processes it covers (digitization and digitalization) are considered. The main directions of digitalization in Ukraine are outlined. The main changes in the direction of Ukraine's integration into the European research area are reflected. The main provisions of the project “Cloud-based systems of open science for teachers’ training and professional development” (since October 2020) – the winner of the competition “Support for research of leading and young scientist”, implemented through grant support of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine. The purpose and objectives of the project, the expected social effect and results are announced. One of the key results should be the methods of using open science services.

Conclusions. It is shown that the launch of the project was preceded by many years of experience of its participants, who during 2010-2020 have conducted seven fundamental research projects, completed 2 projects at the national level, achieved a range of significant results. The implementation of the project will contribute, among other things, to the modernization of the educational and scientific environment of higher education institutions, improving the quality of teachers’ training and professional development.
