Urgency of the research. The rapid development of distance education is due primarily to the appearance of fundamentally new conditions for working with information due to the opportunities provided by new information technologies. The processability of the educational field allows to obtain knowledge at a distance from the educational institution and this is becoming the norm.
Target setting. Distance education has been the subject of scientific debate for decades and its possibilities still need careful consideration, especially in light of recent developments in the universe.
Actual scientific researches and issues analysis. Both domestic and foreign scientists studied general theoretical and methodological issues of distance education at different levels of the educational process. The works of Ukrainian researchers I. Batsurovska, Y. Bilyay, I. Gerasimenko, O. Gnedkova, D. Kasatkin, Y. Prokofiev, V. Svidovska, N. Yakymenko, Yastremska S. and others are devoted to general pedagogical issues of training specialists in the conditions of distance education. The necessity and prospects of distance education for students with disabilities were discussed in the works of Russian scientists P. Lavrov, V. Narushevich, D. Romanenkova, N. Telesheva.
The research objective. The purpose of this research is to analyze the possibilities of distance education, prospects and directions of its development as an independent educational technology that takes into account the needs of society in mobile qualitative training and retraining, conform to humanistic principles, according to which no student of any level can be deprived to get the dream of education due to financial difficulties, geographical or temporary isolation, social insecurity or inability to attend educational institutions due to physical disabilities.
The statement of basic materials. The first attempts to introduce distance education technologies in the education sector were made in the 60s of the twentieth century in Western Europe and the United States. The rapid development of information technology and computerization of the population have led to an increase in demand for new, specific technologies in education, which allows applicants to study at considerable distances from educational institutions. It is the criteria to which the distance learning conforms, and which has been and remains the subject of active scientific discussion both abroad and in our country. Such a system of acquiring knowledge can significantly reduce the cost of education, as distance education is cheaper than traditional forms of higher education, and also reduces transport costs for travel to the place of study and back. Moreover, distance education can be obtained in any rhythm convenient for the applicant, distributing the workload at will. With the correct organization of classes and control of knowledge high efficiency of this method of professional education can be achieved through the use of new software and hardware platforms and electronic courses. On the other hand, critics of distance education say that its quality cannot be compared even with extramural education, and such educational technologies allow only to obtain a diploma with minimal investment of effort and resources without acquiring factual knowledge. The low quality of distance education, according to some experts, can be explained by the lack of quality methods of distance teaching, the average quality of e-courses, as well as the e-learning environments themselves.
Conclusions. Socio-cultural and humanistic orientation of the distance education system conforms to the tendencies taking place in the world education system. Global educational tendencies in the humanization of education in general, and the distance education system in particular, prove that the prestige and demand for distance education in the coming years will grow steadily. Educational institutions need to pay more attention to this fact taking into account the requirements of consumers of educational services to technologies, quality and mobility of education.
