Urgency of the research. Target setting. Childhood of the XXI century is characterized by increasing of demands to personality in this period, changing his or her traditional attributes and loos of connection with the older generation. The modern social situation of the development of preschool age children comes with fast increasing of “gaming industry”, an assortment of which expands every year. Under such conditions toy is losing its pedagogic potential in the formulation of a child`s personality and mostly is a measure for material enrichment of producer company.

Target setting. In such a situation the search of possible options of choosing between a present variety of toys which can have a positive influence on formulation preschool age child`s idea about him or herself and the surrounding world is relevant.

Actual scientific researches and issues analysis. The problem of role of game and toys in development of preschool age children in present conditions is mentioned in works of modern native (L. Artemova, H. Bielenka, N. Havrysh, K. Karasova, O. Kononko, K. Krutii, S. Ladyvir, T. Pirozhenko and others) and European researchers (J. Goldstein, F. Mouritsen R. Retter, D. Whitebread and others). Studying of peculiarities of modern toys as an inherent attribute of childhood is informed in works of V. Abramenkova, N. Havrysh, L. Hladun, O. Vovchyk-Blakytna, O. Smirnova and others.

The research objective. The task of the article is the definition of main tendencies of development of toys assortment for preschool age children and criteria of choice of toys with forecasting of possible results of their influence on the formation of the personality.

The statement of basic materials. In the article, the main tendencies of modern developing of toys industry are outlined. It is certain that the development of toys industry is intended to renewal and advance of interactivity of toys, popularization of some brands (movies, books, toys, sweets with the same characters) and intrusion of series of same toys what in a result do not meet age needs of preschool child development. In the situation of supersaturation of toys market modern toy has a range of new characteristics. And its` influence on the formation of personality not always can be predicted. In particular, the great bulk of popular toys between consumers do not promote the strengthening of the mechanism of socialization of preschool age child, maintaining of family relations, propagandize values which are not common for our nation and provoke a variety of strategies of behavior in a situation of moral choice. A toy for preschool age children is the main method in the formulation of a sign-symbolic system of representation the surrounding reality. In modern sociocultural situation cooperation with this integral feature of childhood requires constant pedagogical support, which involves the selection of toys with taking into account their educational potential and forecasting their potential results on the personality.

Conclusions. Results of the research indicate that modern toy can be an effective method in formulation the idea of preschool age child about him or herself and about surrounding world but only under the condition if demands of its choice and readiness of important adults will be maintained.
