Urgency of the research. The preparedness of physical therapists is one of the important issues of the country's personnel policy in the field of health care, the effective solution of which ensures the successful development of restorative medicine as an integral part of the health care system. The normative and substantive bases of professional activity encourage modern specialists of physical therapy to a certain range of professional knowledge, skills and skills to the basis of their formation – direct motivation for professional choice. Educational institutions that prepare future specialists in physical rehabilitation are in a situation where it is necessary to combine theory with modern practice of the present and the ability to solve practical problems related to physical therapy and ergotherapy, characterized by complexity and uncertainty.
Target setting. Many spiritual orientations and values complete a great importance in the life of modern student’s youth. Deformation and ethical value of orientations occurs. These changes require the revision of the whole system of education and educational work in higher educational institution, the search and introduction of new forms and methods of work in order to prepare and educate students not only as professionals, but as true humanists, personalities with capital letters.
Actual scientific researches and issues analysis. In writings of N. V. Lyakhovchenko, V. A. Polishchuk, O. M. Semeniuk and others the factors of choice of future professional activity are analyzed. Studies show that there is a direct correlation between the nature of the factors that determine the choice of a profession and the effectiveness of learning, cognitive interests and needs of students.
The research objective. To determine the priority motives for choosing a profession of physical therapist by students in the current conditions of development of the health care industry in order to improve the system of training of specialists of physical therapy.
The statement of basic materials. The specialty "Physical therapy, ergotherapy" was chosen in almost equal gender ratio: women and men. Age category of students 17- 21 years. Most enrolled after graduation, and a minority who had previously received specialized secondary education in medical schools and colleges. The most decisive in the choice of profession are the participants of the questioning called various factors. Priority factors most students consider "working conditions", the factor of higher education and prestige of the profession respectively; many respondents enjoy working with people, and the financial side (sallary) matters, more than half of respondents explained the choice of profession of physical therapist with insufficient number of qualified personnel in this field, slightly less than half of respondents chose a related profession with medical profession, and a minority entered the specialty on medical profession, parents' recommendation.
Conclusions. In the formation of a competent health care professional, priority is given to the motives for choosing a profession of physical therapist. It is determined that the greatest influence on the choice of profession of physical therapist by students is a group of factors of intrinsic motivation (unconditional), since the chosen profession requires from the specialist of restorative medicine full dedication to the chosen specialty, investment of the soul to work, kindness to people. However, there is a big percentage of those who were driven by external factors of motivation (conditional) that characterizing the future specialist from the pragmatic side.
