Urgency of the research. One of the main projects and tasks of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is the organization of the All-Ukrainian Research Competition for school students. The competitive form of organizing the educa-tional process, in addition to the educational component, contains an important aspect of motivation through competitive activities, as well as further promotion and support of research. In addition, competitions stimulate the formation of a social community, as they allow a lot of students to participate in one event and familiarize themselves with the results of each other's research. The Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is a large educational system that teaches and organizes student research activities in 12 scientific fields with 66 scientific kid’s clubs (according to the list of scientific kids clubs approved at the III - All-Ukrainian stage of the competition). Apart from this competition, in each scientific fields also has been organizing competitions of various scales. In particular the GIS and Remote Sensing Laboratory, organizes the All-Ukrainian competition of environmental projects “Ecopohliad”.

Target setting. Identification of trends in the introduction of geographic information systems and remote sensing technologies into the school educational process based on the processing of 1482 questionnaires from participants of the All-Ukrainian competition of environmental projects “Ecopohliad” for 2020-2021, 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.

Actual scientific researches and issues analysis. In our work, we based on some of the most cited foreign works related to the organization of national and international competitions, in particular, the works of Franca Sangiorgio, Vojsava Gjoni, Wojsaw Joni Nicola, Nicola Fiore, Donato Tarantino, Alberto Basset, Laura-Marie U. Schröder, Arjen E. J. Wals, Kris van Koppen and others. As well as existing publications in Ukrainian publications, including articles written by Stanislav Dovgyi, Iryna Savchenko, Natalia Polihun, and others.

The research objective. To process and summarize the results of the survey of 1482 participants of the All-Ukrainian competition of environmental projects “Ecopohliad” for the years 2020 - 2021, 2021 - 2022 and 2022 - 2023.

The statement of basic materials. The results of a three-year survey of participants of the All-Ukrainian competition of environmental projects “Ecopohliad” are described in this article. We identify trends in using geographic information systems and remote sensing technologies in the educational process according to this survey. There is an analysis of the changes in the age profile of the participants and their self-reflection on the level of their environmental literacy. Some of the competition projects are described.

Conclusions. The competitive form of organizing the educational process motivates the participants to do research. It creates the conditions for building a community of like-minded students. It helps to confirm the idea that the education and awareness of the students about the environment is an important factor in the development of the modern society. According to the survey, each year an increasing proportion of contest participants say that they use either electronic maps or a mixed form (electronic and paper maps) in the educational process at their educational institutions. Fewer use paper maps. The number of students with experience in the use of satellite imagery is also on the rise from year to year. All of this creates the conditions for a smooth introduction of Earth observation data from satellites into the educational process in the schools.
